When you think of bath salts, you most likely think of those floral scented gift sets you buy for a last minute Mother’s Day present. Or it’s your go to gift for your nan who just “loves the smell of lavender”. Well think again lovelies because after trying and testing a few different types of bath salts, there were a few which stood out to me, and I can no longer live without them.
Pink Himalayan Salt – £5.99 (1kg bag) http://www.westlabsalts.co.uk
This glorious naturally occurring salt is packed with over 80 different minerals and vitamins Including calcium, magnesium and potassium. A bath in 1kg of dissolved salt is said to be more effective than a 3 day fast in terms of detox benefits. So if (like me) you’ve been over indulging or are feeling a little bit Blegh, this is the perfect way to give your body a kickstart in the right direction. To get the best possible detox benefits from these salts, a 20 minute bath 3 times a week with a cup or two of salt will work wonders. I find that this is not only perfect for detoxifying my body and remineralising my skin, it is also amazing when I’m feeling run down or poorly as the vitamins and minerals help to top up my body and make me feel healthier.
If you get food grade Himalayan salt, you can use it as a healthy alternative to table salt and receive even more benefits!
Dead Sea salts are among one of the top remedies for softening dry, rough skin and work wonders on sensitive skins, particularly if you happen to suffer from eczema or psoriasis. While you can buy plain Dead Sea salts, the Forever Living Relaxation Salts are a little extra special. Made with a blend of high quality, soothing essential oils including lavender and bergamot, not only do these luxurious salts smell delicious, they leave your skin feeling soft and delicately fragranced, and leave your mind and body feeling completely relaxed. These bath salts are a little more on the pricey side, but a little goes a very long way. Only 2 table spoons are needed for a whole bath and this will make your whole bathroom smell beautiful while you unwind.
Epsom Salts – £5.99 (1kg bag) http://www.westlabsalts.co.uk
These bad boys are my secret weapon in fighting against weight gain and stiff muscles. When dissolved in your bath water, they help to promote healing, to cleanse and detoxify the body, and to relax the muscles post work out. Lactic acid builds up in the muscles and can slow down the healing process (making you ache more after a work out) and this salt helps the body by drawing it out and speeding up the healing process.
An added bonus to this salt is that it draws out any excess water and fluid in your body (Yay! Temporary inch loss!) so an Epsom salt bath is a perfect pre-event treatment to help you look and feel your best. Epsom salt has countless uses and benefits, and is a cheap and effective way to boost your body. Epsom salts can also be ingested in small doses to aid with digestion.
I love a good bath product. And I will be sharing my favourites with you as I discover them. If you have any favourites which you swear by, please let me know and I’ll definitely give them a go!
Have an amazing weekend lovelies!
